Peacemaking—a form of dispute resolution?

We help unlock business and interpersonal conflict without litigation.  As Peacemakers we utilize a powerful and transformative process founded on an integrated view of why people fight, how they fight and what they really fight over.  In legal disputes, Peacemaking offers a complete alternative to the court system.  In other interpersonal conflict, Peacemaking improves communication, teamwork and efficiency by piercing through resentments and unspoken misunderstandings that sabotage the achievement of goals.

You begin by enlisting the help of a trained Peacemaker to lead a series of structured discussions held both separately and with combined parties.  We structure the Peacemaking process around the protections of existing law governing mediation.

The Peacemaker draws on a series of tools to help the parties de-escalate and regain access to problem solving skills diminished in the heat of the dispute.  Through structured communication and listening, the parties experience the power of being fully heard and understood. Embedded misunderstandings are uncovered and reframed.  Tunnel vision induced by conflict broadens into a more healthy perspective.  The parties see past positions and blaming.  As the process unfolds, doors will open so that the parties can resolve their dispute based on interests that are revealed behind the demands.

When parties work with a Peacemaker, they can resolve legal disputes within a few weeks, as opposed to the months or years required in litigation.  Moreover, Peacemaking clears a path for the parties to preserve and restore the integrity of relationships in a way that is not possible in the courtroom.

Parties who chose the conventional path of litigation and who discover mid-stream that the stakes are just too high to risk an unfavorable outcome in court will find Peacemaking an attractive alternative.  Parties in the Collaborative Law process can effectively use Peacemaking to unlock an impasse.

We can facilitate your dispute resolution procedure.  We can also introduce your organization to Peacemaking as a workplace tool.  Contact us about speaking with your group.  We offer a variety of formats, including an interactive workshop.
